San Jose State @ Fresno State
Current records: San Jose State 4-1; Fresno State 1-4
What there is to know
After three games on the road, the Fresno State Bulldogs return home. The Bulldogs and the San Jose State Spartans will square off in a Mountain West Battle at 10:45 p.m. ET Saturday at Valley Children’s Stadium. Fresno State and SJSU are tied in their last six meetings (3-3).
Fresno State received a blow last week falling 40-20 to the Boise State Broncos. One thing holding Fresno State back was the lackluster play of QB Logan Fife, who didn’t have his best game: Despite a touchdown, he threw two interceptions with just 5.36 yards per pass attempt.
A well-rounded offense carried SJSU over the UNLV Rebels every quarter on their way to victory last Friday. The Spartans hurt UNLV with a clear 40-7 victory. With SJSU ahead 23 to none at halftime, the game was already almost over. QB Chevan Cordeiro had a dynamite match for SJSU; he had two touchdowns and 230 yards on 27 attempts in addition to rushing for two touchdowns and 104 yards.
Fresno State is expected to lose the next by 7. Those betting on them ATS shouldn’t have high expectations for them since the team is 0-2 ATS when they should to lose.
Fresno State is now 1-4 while the Spartans sit a 4-1 mirror image. A few defensive stats to keep in mind while watching: The Bulldogs enter the game with just 194.2 passing yards allowed per game on average, good for 29th best in the nation. But SJSU is even better: they enter the competition with the fifth-fewest passing yards allowed per game in the nation at 156. We’ll see if that advantage gives SJSU a path to victory.
