people like The boys. Although the Prime Video series isn’t the product of flashy IP — it’s based on a comic by an independent publisher — the series’ ratings rival some of the biggest shows in the country. In Nielsen’s latest streaming ratings report, the Antony Starr and Erin Moriarty-led show nearly beat Disney+’s Obi Wan series of events.
According to the ratings firm, users logged 958 million minutes watched from Obi Wan Kenobi. The boys, however, was watched only nine million minutes less than the Lucasfilm hit. While that looks like a substantial number on paper, it’s a relatively small deviation in the grand scheme of things. Whereas The boys finished fourth with 949 million minutes watched, Netflix‘s Ozark finished fifth with 644 minutes watched over the same period, down 305 million minutes from the R-rated superhero show.
Prime Video has already renewed The Boys for a fourth season, with filming set to begin later this year.
“From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season 3 of The boyswe knew the series continued to get even bolder – an impressive feat considering the resounding success of the Emmy-nominated second season,” Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios, said in a statement. The boys continues to push the boundaries of storytelling while being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels too real. This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the opening weekend viewership is proof of that. We’re immensely proud of the cast and crew who brought a franchise to life for Prime Video, and we look forward to bringing more The boys to our customers.”
“On behalf of the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to do more,” said Eric Kripke, The boys showrunner, added. “We are thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as to comment on the insane world we live in. Additionally, this is the first time in history that the organ explosion genitalia led to further success.”
The first six episodes of The boys Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video while the entire first season of Obi Wan Kenobi viewable on Disney+.
