Pinoy graphic novel is now a Netflix series


Trese will premiere as an animated series in June

BRAID, the Filipino graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo, has been made into a Netflix Original Anime series and will be released on June 11, the streaming service announced.

Trese is a crime / horror graphic novel about a detective who solves supernatural crimes that are often linked to creatures from Filipino mythology. The Original Anime series – directed by Jay Oliva and written by Tanya Yuson, Zig Marasigan and Mihk Vergara – takes place in Manila, where these mythical creatures live hidden among humans, and where Detective Alexandra Trese comes face to face with a world. criminal made up of malevolent supernatural beings.

Netflix has released the official trailer for Trese ( on May 21.

The series‘ English and Filipino voice cast has also been announced.

Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Glee), Jon Jon Briones (Pawl), Nicole Scherzinger (Moana), Manny Jacinto (The right place), Lou Diamond Phillips (the Bamba) and Dante Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender) join Shay Mitchell (YOU, Pretty little Liars) who, as previously announced, is the voice of Alexandra Trese in the English version.

Filipino actress Liza Soberano (My ex and why, alone / together) will perform Alexandra Trese in the Filipino language version of the series. The local professional voice cast includes Simon dela Cruz (as Crispin and Basilio), Apollo Abraham (Captain Guerrero), Christopher Carlo Caling (Hank), Christian Velarde (Nuno) and Eugene Adalia (Anton Trese). Rudolf Baldonado will lead local vocal talent.

Filipino band UDD composed the official soundtrack for the animated series, “Paagi”, with lyrics by Armi Millare and Paul Yap. – PLANS
