Netflix challenges Sanrio with a nice original series

Netflix is back with help from Japan. Over the years, the streaming service has borrowed dozens and dozens of Japanese IP addresses to create original titles, and this new project will be no different. After all, Rilakkuma is getting a cute series on Netflix this fall, and it will take the bear to the most magical places.

As you can see below, Netflix has announced that Rilakkuma Theme Park Adventure is in the works. The stop-motion series will go live this fall on August 25 in the United States. And of course fans of all things kawaii will want to tune in to this series.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Netflix has teamed up with the Japanese teddy bear. In April 2019, Rilakkuma and Kaoru debuted to welcome critics. This new series of theme parks appears to be a spin-off of the original Rilakkuma title. But if you’re not caught up with the first set, don’t worry! This sequel appears to be an episodic spinoff, so fans new and old should be able to slip into its storyline whenever they want.

Now, if you’re unfamiliar with Rilakkuma, the character is one of Japan’s biggest non-Sanrio mascots. The San-X company created the cute bear under the supervision of Aki Kondo, and the character has since become a worldwide star. And thanks to Netflix, their popularity will only grow in the US with the help of Rilakkuma’s new series!
