The 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews is the pinnacle of the sport: the oldest major tournament is played on the game’s most historic course with a Claret Jug that will be awarded to one of golf’s best players. Four days of immaculate golf begin on Thursday as the Old Course in Scotland hosts The Open for the first time since 2015.
The anticipation reached fever pitch with the start of the game as Rory McIlroy entered the field as the undisputed favorite. The Ulsterman has played some of the best golf of his career in 2022, although despite three major top 10 finishes so far he is yet to leave the schneid with his first such crown since he won that event and the PGA Championship. -back in 2014.
After pulling out of the US Open to rehabilitate his still healing leg, Tiger Woods is back in a major field for the third time this season. Woods, a three-time Open champion golfer of the year who considers St. Andrews his favorite course, will be looking to win his third Claret Jug at the Old Course in what may be his last legitimate opportunity to do so.
Xander Schauffele, fresh off a Scottish Open victory, sits just behind McIlroy on the odds table along with other stars like Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, US Open winner Matthew Fitzpatrick and PGA Champion Justin Thomas rounding out the top of the pack. Even beyond these golfers, there’s so much to follow this week that it can be overwhelming at times. No worries: we’ve got you covered.
