Activations — live events that use activities to immerse fans in beloved TV shows and movies — are an integral part of the Comic-Con experience.
One such activation is Netflix’s The Gray Man training program, which can be easily spotted from the smoke rising from the ABM parking lot at the corner of 1st Avenue and Island Avenue.
In the Netflix action movie “The Gray Man,” premiering July 22, sees a CIA agent (Ryan Gosling) uncover secrets that have him targeted for assassination by an agent (Chris Evans) and his team. murderers. The film is based on the books by Mark Greaney.
This experience, unveiled outside of Comic-Con International on Wednesday, July 19, is intended to mimic a chase scene involving many types of vehicles, stunts, and gunfire in Prague.
A timed obstacle course, the activation is meant to test “skill, strength and speed”, according to organizers.
At the start, participants receive a medallion with a “data chip” inside. The first two tests take place on a rough streetcar, with just 30 seconds to pass each. The final test takes place when participants are asked to run on the roof of the car and place their medallions in a container – and they are shown a video of themselves doing this sprint to keep.
While the first in-person SDCC is in full swing, this activation is one of the few outside of the San Diego Convention Center.
